We finally made the pilgrimage to the incredible workshop of Gods Own Junkyard in Walthamstow last weekend, and were not disappointed. Set up by Chris Bracey - who sadly recently died - God's Own Junkyard produces and restores spectacular and kitsch neon movie signs and props. They rightly have a cult following among the world's fashion and design set and you may have seen some of the piece in Selfridges or in the background of fashion shoots. But to truly appreciate the awesome effect of hundreds of pieces together I suggest you get yourself on the Victoria Line to Walthamstow.
Brixton in South London is a hotbed of creativity, pop-ups and super-cool markets at the moment, so it was a pleasure to chat to the lovely team at design store Turpentine on Coldharbour Lane. Alongside a great selection of designer-makers (including Alfred & Wilde!), the shop also hosts regular workshops, courses and classes. Check out the Turpentine website for more information.
In the latest of our stockist profiles we chatted to the super-cool Helen Fisher at her shop SNAP on Roman Road in East London. Helen is great on social media so make sure you check her out on Facebook or Instagram where I nicked all these photos from.
I am over the moon that my favourite London-themed gift store has returned to Carnaby Street for a summer pop-up. The team has assembled a collection of the finest and coolest London prints, ceramics, cards, tote bags, pigeons and tea bags (amongst other wonderful things) that you'll find anywhere in the city. It simply blows other tourist-tat shops out of the water. And to top it off they pride themselves on working with independent designer-makers and creatives, making it a real community asset. Let's hope the tourist hoards agree!
Check out my top picks below (excuse the dodgy photography, there was a lot of free booze at the launch):
There are two weekends of partying, shopping and merriment still to come before Christmas, and Alfred & Wilde will be with you all the way. Visit us at two of the best Christmas markets in town to pick up some unique last minute gifts:
Of Cabbages & Kings Christmas Market
Now in it's sixth year, the Of Cabbages & Kings Christmas Market is an established fixture in the Stoke Newington calendar. It returns to Abney Hall this December for a festive weekend of stalls selling some of the best art, fashion, prints, gifts, textiles and product design in London town.
